Cayla is the birthplace and home of Maurice and Eugénie de Guerin, a brother and sister who were both writers and romantic poets. This fine country house is surrounded by parkland and is classified as a site of special interest.
In the heart of the vineyards, between Cordes-sur-Ciel and Gaillac, this traditional Languedoc manor house is the birthplace of the Romantic poet Maurice de Guérin (1810-1839), known for his prose poems "Le Centaure" and "La Bacchante", and his diary "Le Cahier Vert".
His sister Eugénie (1805-1848) wrote a diary for him, which is a precious testimony to life in the Tarn in the 19th century.
In addition to the visit of the castle, the museum hosts cultural events throughout the year on the theme of poetry, literature and the arts.
In the park, hiking trails, including a literary trail, encourage strolling and are all ways to feel the special atmosphere of this place.
